The Ghent University (Department of Architecture and Urban Development, Department of History – Institute for Public history, University library) developed in cooperation with the municipal heritage partners (De Zwarte Doos – Municipal archives Ghent, Service of Monument Care and Architecture and STAM) ‘Ghent 1913 Virtual’ to share the research and the collections with respect to Ghent 1913 with each other and with the large audience.
‘Ghent 1913 Virtual’ consists of:
- an image bank with approximately 500 images (photographs, construction plans, drawings, billboards, etc.) selected among the collections of De Zwarte Doos – Municipal archives Ghent and the University library
- a series of virtual exhibitions with respect to specific themes regarding the World Exhibition
- a virtual 3D-scale model of the World Exhibition venue. Here you can have a look at this virtual scale model.
- a digital copy of the book written by André Capiteyn, ‘Gent in weelde herboren: wereldtentoonstelling 1913’, published in 1988 on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the World Exhibition, serving as a catalogue for the exhibition that took place then in the Kunsthal Sint-Pietersabdij.
